Golden Knights win third straight, pull within 1 point of first place
Published in Hockey
The Vegas Golden Knights have clawed back within one point of first place in the Pacific Division thanks to their 5-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Saturday.
The Knights (35-26-16) won their third straight under new coach John Tortorella and moved one point behind the Oilers and Anaheim Ducks — tied with 87 points — with five games remaining in the regular season.
The Ducks lost 5-3 to the Calgary Flames on Saturday.
Brett Howden and Jeremy Lauzon each had a goal and an assist, and Jack Eichel had three assists for the Knights.
Eichel, with 82 points, became the first player in Knights history to have consecutive 80-point seasons.
Goaltender Carter Hart finished with 31 saves in his second consecutive start.
This was only the Knights’ 13th wire-to-wire victory of the season, which was also their first against Edmonton this season (1-2-1).
The Oilers (39-29-9) played without center Leon Draisaitl (lower body) and winger Zach Hyman (undisclosed).
